Drei Wochen London: Unsere Lernenden im Sprachaufenthalt mit Praktikum
Vom 24.
Ivana & Jil, 24.-25.5.2026: Our First Days in London
On the 24th of May, our group of 22 students met early in the morning at Zurich Airport. Everyone was excited and looking forward to spending three weeks in London. After passing through security and passport control, we boarded our Swiss flight to London Heathrow Airport. The flight was short and pleasant, and about one hour later we arrived in the United Kingdom.
After landing, we all had to pass passport control again before collecting our luggage. In the arrival hall, we met Kerdal, our guide from Twin Group, who accompanied us during our first days in London. She welcomed us warmly and escorted us to a bus. We then travelled for around two hours until we reached the meeting point where our host families were waiting for us.
Hanna and the two of us were picked up together by our host mother. She immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable in her home. After unpacking, we decided to explore the neighbourhood and visited Greenwich Park. The weather was beautiful, and we had an amazing view over London. Even though we were tired from travelling, we were very happy to finally be here.
The next morning, our host mother prepared packed lunches for us before we left for school. At 9:30 a.m., we met Kerdal again and travelled by bus and underground into central London.
During the day, we visited famous sights such as Big Ben, London Eye, Westminster abbey and Chinatown. We also spent about an hour in the National Gallery, where we saw many impressive paintings and artworks. Afterwards, we had lunch in Covent Garden, which was full of people and street food.
Because the weather was extremely hot, around 33°C, the tour ended earlier than planned. We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and exploring the city on our own before returning home. In the evening, our host mother prepared delicious Pakistani rice for dinner.
After another exciting day full of new impressions, we went to bed tired but very happy about our experience in London so far.
Christian & Leon, 26.-27.5.2026:
Tuesday, 26.5.2026
Morning and Afternoon (School): In the morning, we had school, followed by a trip to the O2 at lunchtime. Our teacher, Aiden, gave us a brief introduction to the Twin school, where we went over basic behavior in London and some simple grammar. In the afternoon, we had class with our second English teacher and did a listening exercise.
Evening (Sightseeing and Shopping): We went to the National Gallery and saw Big Ben. We also explored the city, walked onto the bridge and visited various shops to buy clothes, including the Nike Store. Afterward, we went to an Asian restaurant for dinner. Later that evening, we went jogging together which was really great.
Wednesday, 27.5.2026
Morning Journey: We got up early in the morning and almost arrived late but we managed to catch the bus just in time because we ran for it.
Lunch at the O2: around lunchtime, we went back to the O2 and tried some special tacos from Chipotle. However, we didn't like them very much even though a friend had told us they were delicious. We then had to hurry because a friend wanted to get a milkshake, which almost caused us to miss our bus, but we made it back on time.
Evening (Soho and Park Walk): In the evening, we went downtown to Soho and were highly impressed by its beauty and charm. From there, we walked toward Buckingham Palace. On the way we spotted a beautiful, small church that was somewhat hidden but had its own unique charm. To get to the palace we walked through Green Park, which strongly reminded us of the English Garden in Munich. After crossing the park, we finally reached Buckingham Palace though it turned out to be less spectacular than we had expected.
Nico & Uke, 28.-29.5.2026: A Memorable Finale: Reflecting on Thursday and Friday in London
The final days of our language trip this May were a whirlwind of academic milestones and fun experiences. Looking back at Thursday and Friday, the schedule perfectly blended intensive grammar practice with real-world communication.
Thursday: Roleplays and Host Family Hospitality
Our Thursday morning started with a deep dive into compound adjectives and the complex structures of the three conditionals. Under the guidance of our amazing teachers Aidan (2nd Picture) and James (1st Picture) the lessons were not only educational but also incredibly funny. Both are charismatic individuals who really helped us improve our speaking skills, teaching us how to speak English spontaneously and with more confidence.
In the afternoon, we prepared for our upcoming presentations and took part in an immersive hotel roleplay. We had to slip into different roles: some were unhappy guests and others were receptionists. This forced us to explain problems and find solutions entirely in English, which was a great challenge.
The busy day concluded in Kidbrooke, where we enjoyed a cozy dinner of chicken burgers and fries with our lovely host family.
Friday: Assessments, Graduation, and Pitches
Morning – Exam
Friday morning marked the culmination of our hard work. After a quick final review of the conditionals, we took an exam including listening comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar to see exactly where we stand.
Graduation Ceremony
The stress quickly melted away at midday during our graduation ceremony, where we celebrated the official end of our school time.
Afternoon — Pitches and a Surprise
In the afternoon, it was time for our pitches. Working in groups of three, we presented innovative ideas that we had developed together.
The serious atmosphere was briefly interrupted at 15:30 by a sudden fire alarm. Luckily, it turned out to be a false alarm, so we casually grabbed some donuts to relax while waiting outside.
A Final Chicken Dinner
We wrapped up this unforgettable journey by watching a beautiful sunset together, before heading out into the city for a final chicken dinner at Slim Chickens.
What a trip. What memories. What a group.
Silvan & Fisnik, 30.-31.5.2026: London Weekend Highlights
During this weekend, we experienced London in very different ways. On Saturday, we visited the Tower of London together with our class and explored one of the city’s most historic landmarks before going our separate ways for the rest of the day.
Fisnik: The Tower of London was one of the highlights of my stay. We saw the Crown Jewels, the White Tower and learned about medieval England. The Bloody Tower and its story about the missing princes stood out, and the ravens made the visit even more special due to the legend surrounding them.
Afterwards, I crossed Tower Bridge and enjoyed the view over the city. Later, I went to Itsu for sushi with a friend from my class and spent the afternoon relaxing in Southwark Park in the warm weather.
In the evening, we met up with some friends to celebrate her 18th birthday in Peckham Rye Park and Common. We spent the evening in a small group enjoying the atmosphere. On Sunday, I rested, had fish and chips, and ended the day with a workout at the gym.
Silvan: After our visit to the Tower of London, I spent the evening with colleagues I had recently met. We tried to watch the Champions League final in a bar, but everything was full. In the end, we watched the match outside Arsenal Stadium on my phone, surrounded by many fans, which created an impressive atmosphere.
Before the match, we had dinner in a small chicken shop. The simple meal fit perfectly with the busy street atmosphere. What impressed me most was how football brought so many different people together in one place, all sharing the same emotions.
On Sunday, I had a much calmer day. After the intense Saturday, I went for an eight-kilometre run and explored parts of London on my own before relaxing for the rest of the day.
Overall, this weekend showed both the historical and modern sides of London: from the Tower’s deep history to the energy of football and everyday city life.
Miana & Hanna, 1.6.2026:
Leonie & Kiana, 2.6.2026: A Memorable Day in London
On the 2nd of June, we had another exciting day in London. Despite some challenges with public transport, we managed to enjoy a fantastic day together. One of the biggest issues was the underground train strike. Many tube services were not running, which made travelling around the city more difficult than usual.
Fortunately, the buses were very reliable and allowed us to get to our destinations without major problems. It was interesting to see how London adapts during transport disruptions, and we learned the importance of being flexible when travelling.
Italian Dinner
In the evening, our group went to an Italian restaurant for dinner. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, and everyone enjoyed spending time together outside of school. We had the opportunity to taste different Italian dishes, including pizza, pasta and other traditional specialities. The food was delicious, and it was a great chance to relax and share our experiences from the past few days.
The Lion King
After dinner, we went to see The Lion King musical in London's West End. The performance was absolutely amazing. The costumes, music and stage effects were impressive and created an unforgettable experience. Many of us were especially impressed by the talented actors and the creative way the story was brought to life on stage.
Overall, the 2nd of June was a wonderful day. Even though the underground strike caused some inconvenience, the reliable bus network helped us travel around the city. The combination of a delicious Italian meal and the spectacular Lion King musical made this day one of the highlights of our stay in London.
Giuliano & Kimi, 3.-4.6.2026: Business Experience London
The last two days of our Business Experience in London were full of new experiences at work and in our free time.
On 3rd June, we went to our internships in different charity shops. Giuliano works in a charity shop in Kensington, while Kimi works in a charity shop in Blackheath. During the day, Giuliano steamed clothes, tagged items, organised clothes in the basement, vacuumed the shop and helped a customer. This gave him a better understanding of the daily work in a charity shop. Kimi spent the whole day working at the cash register and gained valuable experience dealing with customers.
After work, we returned home and finished our BBW SQL Ticketshop project, which we successfully submitted. Later, together with Nico, we travelled into the city and explored Borough Market. We enjoyed the lively atmosphere and discovered many different food stands and products from around the world. In the evening, we celebrated Kimi’s birthday at Burger & Beyond and spent some time walking around the city.
On 4th June, Giuliano left home at 9:00 a.m. and started work at 10:00 a.m. He met Dalila, another shop manager, and learned how the cash register system works. During the day, he worked upstairs in the shop, carried out transactions, priced items and tagged clothes. It was his favourite day of the internship so far because he had much more contact with customers than on previous days. Kimi continued working at the cash register and further improved his communication and customer service skills.
After work, we explored London by Lime bike. We visited several vintage football stores and spent some time shopping in Soho, including stores such as Supreme. Afterwards, we went for Chinese food before travelling through Charing Cross and taking the train back home.
Back in Lewisham, both of us completed a sprint training session because we want to stay fit during our time in London. Later, we had dinner together with our host mothers. They prepared mashed potatoes, a traditional meat pie and a salad. After two busy and exciting days, we relaxed, took a shower and got ready for the next day.
These two days helped us gain practical work experience and discover more of London. We are enjoying the Language Exchange and look forward to the experiences still ahead of us.
Lea & Laila, 5.-6.6.2026:
Friday, 5 June 2026
The first week of our internships with the charities has come to an end. After a busy morning at work, one of us enjoyed lunch with a colleague, while the rest of the day passed quickly as we settled into our placements.
After work, we all spent the evening in different parts of London. One of us relaxed at a sports café with a refreshing smoothie and enjoyed the unique atmosphere created by the boxing club located behind it. Later, we met up with friends in central London at Piccadilly Circus, where we had a delicious Mexican dinner. We spent a long time talking, laughing, and enjoying the lively atmosphere before taking a walk through the city.
Meanwhile, others headed to Greenwich Market. The market was full of life, with interesting stalls and great food. One of the highlights was the ice cream from Dark Sugars, which was delicious and definitely worth trying.
To end the day, instead of taking the bus home, we chose to travel by boat along the River Thames. Seeing London’s skyline from the water was breathtaking and offered a completely different perspective of the city.
Overall, it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of the first week of our internships.
Saturday, 6 June 2026
In the morning, one of us went for a run in a nearby park, enjoying the fresh air and peaceful surroundings. Later, she met some friends and spent the afternoon at Westfield Shopping Centre. The shopping centre was enormous, with countless shops and places to explore. Finding each other inside turned out to be a challenge because of its size, but once everyone had met up, they spent several hours browsing the stores and chatting.
At the same time, I went to Camden Market with some friends. Although the weather was not particularly pleasant, the area was still full of interesting sights. Before exploring the market, we had corn dogs at a restaurant in Camden Town. Afterwards, we walked through Camden Market and enjoyed looking at the many unique stalls and shops. Later, we headed to the famous Graffiti Tunnel. The colourful street art was stunning and made for a memorable experience.
In the evening, we all returned home feeling tired but happy after another eventful day. Some of us relaxed with Netflix, while others ordered pizza and enjoyed a quiet evening together. One important lesson from the day: always double-check the delivery address before ordering food!
Despite the rainy weather, Saturday was another enjoyable day filled with new experiences, good food, and great company.
